Nordic people tend to choose small, local designer wares over big brands – their own unique and handmade clothing rather than expensive looking Western-European names, recognizable from far away. One of them is Estonian designer Sille Sikmann. Her brand name is Scheckmann and it’s very symbolic – it is an old Baltic-German family name, over time transformed into Sikmann, which actually means “chic man”. Scheckmann is a brand for men – chic and sophisticated men.

Sille Sikmann studied leather design in he Tartu Art College, but fell in love with shoe design during the Erasmus exchange program in Finland. After taking shoe making course in Budapest, Hungary, in 2012 her brand Scheckmann was born. The designer works only on male shoe design, making men options in stores much wider, and certainly, more colorful. Besides, most Nordic men have bigger feet – higher from the middle, so Sille has created a niche brand for trendy men.

Scheckmann offers custom made shoes – she measures the feet, defines customer’s style, chooses patterns and in the end client receives perfectly fitted, individually designed, orthopedically correct shoes. Bravely mixing leather with textile, adding some color to usual blacks and browns, the designer finds her inspirations in people around her. Scheckmann shoes seem like that missing bit, that women are looking for in men – something that would speak for itself, something individual and timeless, suitable for a man in any age and any status.
